The 6th International Atherosclerosis Society-sponsored Workshop on High Density Lipoproteins will take place in Whistler, BC, Canada from May 17-20, 2010. This workshop is the next in a highly successful series of workshops on HDL that have been held on a triennial basis, and is the largest meeting devoted specifically to HDL research and therapeutics internationally.

State of the art lectures on the present and future direction of HDL research and therapeutics will be presented, with topics including: Predictors of HDL levels from genome-wide association studies; apolipoprotein A-I and HDL structure; reverse cholesterol transport; mechanism of action and regulation of ABCA1; the HDL proteome; HDL and inflammation; HDL, the pancreas, and diabetes; atherosclerosis risk in LCAT deficiency; updates on ABCG1 and SR-BI; CETP as a target for raising HDL; mechanisms of action of niacin; apoAI mimetics; and challenges for the development of novel HDL-raising therapies in the current regulatory environment. Controversies regarding the value of low HDL-C in predicting risk for atherosclerosis will be presented. A hosted poster session will be an integral part of the scientific program, with prizes for finalists in basic and clinical research categories. Additional oral presentations will be selected from the submitted abstracts. A highlight of the meeting will be an evening debate about the importance of HDL versus LDL as targets for the prevention of atherosclerosis.

Established and junior investigators, trainees, and industry scientists and representatives are strongly encouraged to attend what will be a highly educational and stimulating meeting.
